How I increased my team's efficiency in 3 sprints
How I increased my team's efficiency in 3 sprints... 👇
1. Identify the most scarce resource in your team using data. For example, in my team, it's the QA.
2. Introduce a Work-in-Progress limit upstream of the QA to reduce incoming work.
3. Create a limited queue for the QA so they always have work to do, and optimize flow at this stage before others.
4. Standardize and improve the process to minimize back and forth for QA work. Use story templates, have acceptance criteria reviewed, and have tests written by developers, along with automated checks.
5. Identify lower value work that the QA can offload to other team members.
6. Limit distractions like meetings for the QA.
7. Collect data and experiment continuously.
Only when the QA stage is optimized, consider asking for additional QA if required. Adding more people before optimizing the QA stage will negatively impact flow.
This is the power of Theory of Constraints.
